“the search for meaning is really the search for the lost chord. When the lost chord is discovered by humankind, the discord in the world will be healed and the symphony of the universe will come into complete harmony with itself.”
― John O’Donohue, Anam Cara: A Book of Celtic Wisdom
My elephant was a searcher. She was constantly wandering the land with her trunk, searching for food, water, the lingering smells of the Thai jungle. That nose was everywhere, one minute smelling nd another finding and another pulling and eating.
She was making meaning of life as she wandered and I think we do too. We are all busy trying to make meaning in our lives and among other lives. We wander, perhaps not with a trunk, but with eyes, soul, heart, ears and even hands and feet. We want to understand this life and as John says, we are seeking the musical chord which brings discord into tone.
God will do that. God will take the cacophony of our lives and will weave the discord into a chord if we can only get still enough to hear it happening beneath the sounds of life which so often sound like an orchestra tuning rather than an orchestra playing.
But play it does. Underneath. The irony is that the sound is in the silence.
