The Jesuit Theologian James Martin repeats the words of his Spiritual Director when he says of the Advent of God in Jesus:
“There is good news and there is better news. The good news is that a Saviour is Coming to save the world. The better news is that the Saviour is neither you nor me.”
We are all working so hard to try to save a world already saved and we are, indeed, not qualified for the position.
What does it mean to wait, in silence, and simplicity, and longing for Mary to bring us the baby whose flash of divine gold is unmistakable? What humility will it require of us to allow ourselves to simply be saved?
