When I saw this music video, I was standing, hanging Christmas ornaments on my Christmas tree, very soon tears were streaming down my face and I found myself needing to sit down.
I commend it to you this last few days before we celebrate Christmas. You might consider using it as an icon – which means you sit with it and you notice what it draws out from within you.
When I was a monk, morning prayer was always filled with what we called the Laudate psalms. Laudate means “praise” and many were a series of Hallelujah song series. The tradition comes from the monastic reality that the night service called “compline” was about surviving the night and that the laudate psalms were about, well, being glad of the survival.
In the business of the season, it is valuable to turn off the lights, light a candle and play this one song even if it is just to be reminded that we have much for which to be thankful.
